Keep a straight face while reading crazy sentences. Anyone who laughs drinks – and if nobody cracks, the reader drinks.
Straight Face is a slightly absurd test of self-control. Everyone writes the most ridiculous or embarrassing sentences they can imagine on slips of paper. These are thrown into a bowl. Players take turns reading them out loud while maintaining a completely flat voice and zero facial expression. Just one twitching lip and you're reaching for your glass.
Give everyone some paper and a pen. Each player writes down sentences that are either totally absurd or unexpectedly funny. Fold the papers and toss them into a bowl or hat in the center of the table.
The active player draws a random slip and must read it out loud without laughing.
If the reader or any of the listeners laughs (even a visible twitch of the lip or a giggle counts), they must take a drink.
Multiple people can end up drinking at once – basically, anyone who fails to keep a straight face in that round drinks.
If the sentence is read and everyone at the table (including the reader) remains stoic, the reader must drink as a penalty.
Discard the used slip and move to the next player in a clockwise direction.
The game ends when the bowl is empty or when the group is laughing too hard to continue.
Instead of just reading, the player must deliver the sentence like a dramatic scene from a movie. Staying serious in this mode is nearly impossible.
Instead of tossing slips into a bowl, you write a sentence specifically tailored for a certain person at the table and hand it to them. Your goal is to write something that will definitely break them.
